Rehearsals! for Growth (RfG) is a playful, Family Systems-based action method of applying Theatre Improv to relationship therapy.  Viewed as a Drama Therapy of relationships, RfG facilitates change by playfully exploring alternative roles through dramatic enactment.  It combines with almost all psychotherapeutic approaches.  It reaches all populations, including those who do not respond well to talk-only therapy.  It creates a “feel safe” environment necessary for your clients to take risks for growth.  It increases the therapist’s own spontaneity, passion, and creativity!

For those pursuing RfG Practitioner Certification, 15 hours of Direct Instruction in RfG will be available at each weekend workshop to trainees entering or continuing at any Level.

(15 CE hrs. for MSWs and LMFTs in CT available for additional $25 fee)

The many roles we play in life have both outer (social; family; occupational) AND inner (Hero/Heroine; Sage, Trickster) dimensions. When freed from the consequences of varying or exploring alternative roles through improvisational enactments, we can safely explore “who else we can be” by choosing other outer and inner roles on stage. The Rehearsals! for Growth™ (RfG) method playfully applies improvisation both to enhancing the use of Self of the therapist and as proven techniques that may be offered to psychotherapy clients.

This workshop is intended for mental health professionals and is open to clinicians at all levels of prior training and experience, including prior training in RfG. Participation in this workshop may be used to fulfill partially the Direct Instruction requirements toward Certification as a RfG Practitioner (RfG-CP). Begun in 1999, the goal of the RfG-CP Program is to train psychotherapists to be competent in applying RfG principles and techniques in clinical practice. Since RfG is not a complete clinical method in itself, it is expected that Certified Practitioners integrate RfG with and within other clinical methods, although training in effecting such integration is not part of the RfG-CP curriculum.

Daniel J. Wiener, Ph.D., LMFT, RDT-BCT: Professor Emeritus, Central Connecticut State University; licensed psychologist, Diplomate in Family Psychology, AAMFT Approved Supervisor, Registered Drama Therapist and Board-Certified Trainer. He founded Rehearsals! for GrowthTM in 1984, is widely published and has trained over 2000 therapists in nine countries.
